Veteran’s Car Show
Veteran’s Car Show was awesome, Saturday, 8/23/08. Over 300 Show Cars filled the lot and grounds. It is great to see our Local jumping. Thanks to all the Vendors & Veterans. Thank you to all the Local 735 volunteers. A special thank you to Norm (Gunny) Wilcox. What a special man, he just continues to give & give & give. If you happen to see him thank him for all he does for our Local and our Country!

300mm
The 300mm schedule comes as a shock to all! GM announced they will cease the Build on this transmission one (1) year earlier than predicted. At this time the Union has informed Management that there is no need for a layoff due to the 300 mm loss. Our position is to spread the manpower throughout the Plant in pockets, where we know they are short through contractual transfer rights.

The Union is currently pursuing a case to in-source a converters that can be built in the 300mm area with very few engineering changes to our machinery. We will do all we can to secure new work, in this area.

YTO
The Union is proud to say the schedules at YTO will remain at 1080 thru November due to the great job our people do here. Management has informed the Union that Toledo is having difficulty ramping up the 6 speed thus making our schedule more stable.

Car Voucher
The $600 Car Voucher has been developed. Management is in the final stages working with GM’s Accounting Dept. and they should be able to process vouchers by mid September. Remember they are retro-active to 5/12/08. As for the final date, we will let you know as soon as we know.

Clothing Store
The Clothing Store is 99% complete. For those Retiring 9/1/08 –Thursday, 8/28/08 Impressions will be in the Plant at current clothing store location. Also, you will be allowed to go to the store on Telegraph to place your orders, before 9/1/08. Please go to or call: Impressions, 8914 S. Telegraph Taylor, MI 48180 – Phone # 313 299-3140.

For those in the plant, by mid September, the Clothing Store should be up and functioning. As for the exact date, we will let your know as soon as we know.

Local 735 “Day of Caring"
We are taking names of anyone who would like to volunteer to help clean up and repair our Union Hall and grounds, the day is Sunday, 9/21/08 starting at 8:00 a.m. or whenever you can get here. To volunteer, call the Local at 734 482-5620 and get on the list. The leadership of this great Local will be here and we would love to have hundreds of members volunteer. Could you imagine how much we could get done with 100 volunteers? It would be awesome. We will have a list of priorities and supplies. On that day, we will also have a Union Meeting at 2:00 p.m. So if you have never been to a Union meeting, here’s your opportunity. Please volunteer, it’s our House.

GM/UAW Joint Family Picnic
The GM/UAW Joint Family Picnic went off perfectly. We were blessed with exquisite weather and an amazing amount of volunteers, it felt good serving, the 3000+ people with both Union and Management working hand in hand. A special thank you to Mike Finch, Shop Committeeman who played as a One Man Band and did Karaoke for 6 hours, no breaks. The Car Show was awesome! The carnival was excellent, the kids had a great time, you could judge by the smiles on their faces. Aramark did a great job on the food & refreshments. Without the help of Lee Miles they would have never been able to keep up. Thank you, Lee.
